Access Roads Edmonton

The Anthony Henday Drive Southeast Leg Ring Road is a success story for public-private partnerships (P3s) because it was completed on time and on budget. It also shows that the private sector, in partnership with the government, has an important role to play in ensuring that Alberta and Canada have the critical infrastructure upon which our economy and quality of life depend on.

We are proud of the quality of this new highway and believe it offers significant benefits to the people of Edmonton and to the local economy. It will significantly reduce traffic congestion and support economic growth in the region for generations to come. Moreover, the construction and quality are guaranteed for 30 years.

This highway was completed on time and on budget in large part due to the terrific skilled labour available in Alberta. This project benefited the local economy by creating 1.6 million work hours. At its peak, there were 360 workers on the site.

In addition, over the course of the project, AREL rehabilitated three times the amount of wetlands that were affected by the construction, which included about 43 hectares of wetlands onsite and another 54 hectares offsite.
